Biography
Andrée Olivette Brutus was born on October 24, 1942 in Anse Rouge, Haiti. She was the sixth child. One of 14 siblings from her parents Altagrace & Charles Exact Brutus. She was the sister of Pierre, Paul, Fernande, Olga, Alberic, Loretta, Renée, Fritz, Marie Ange, Anmita, Josette , Mona,
Angelo & brother Gerard. She was the beloved aunt to cousin Tony (deceased).
Andrée grew up passionate about education and her Catholic faith. She was a teacher in Haiti and a devout Christian. Andrée was a free spirit who loved and nurtured her family yet having her own space and independence were extremely valuable to her.
What many people may not be aware of is that Andrée turned down many marriage proposals because she lived on her own terms. She left Haiti and traveled to New York in the early 1970’s. She adapted to the cold weather and language barriers while she still succeeded at making a life for herself in New York City. She bravely changed her scenery again and moved to Miami, Florida in the early 1980's. She acclimated to the Miami life by working in Hotels and volunteered at St. Vincent Church. She never learned to drive but that didn’t stop her from venturing out to everywhere by metro bus. If she was gone for hours at a time, everyone in the family knew that she loved the Downtown Miami atmosphere and that's where she would be, enjoying shopping, and walking while enjoying the Downtown vibe.
