John Arthur Hanks
5/13/1960- 3/11/2026
John Arthur Hanks, 65, of Miramar, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, March 11, 2026, at his residence. John was a native Floridian who was born on May 13, 1960, in Coral Gables, Florida. He was the son of Anita (Burket) and Sidney Jackson Hanks Jr., “Jack”. John was raised in Hialeah, where he lived for many years. He graduated from Hialeah-Miami Lakes Sr. High, Class of 1979. John went to work with his father at the Lowe-Hanks Funeral Home while attending Miami-Dade Community College, where he received his Mortuary Science degree. After working for his father for several years, he worked at Florida Funeral Home and Crematory. Following that, he started his own business, John Hanks Memorial Services, in Miami Springs and later moved the business to Davie, Florida. John was an active member of his community and was the past president of the Hialeah-Miami Springs Kiwanis Club, served on the board of the Salvation Army, and a lifelong member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Miami Springs. John was known as the mayor of his neighborhood, as he could be seen riding around the neighborhood on his scooter. John never knew a stranger and would help anyone in need. He enjoyed tinkering around the house, building things in his garage, and going to social events. John loved to be with his family and friends whenever they could get together. He is preceded in death by both his parents and brother-in-law, Mark Bennett. John is survived by his loving daughter, Sydney Ponce de Leon (Jake); son, Jarrett Hanks; twin granddaughters: Lily and Emery; sisters, Diane Bennett and Lori Hanks Stanley (Chuck); brother, Scott J. Hanks (Angie); several nieces and nephews; cousins; and his longtime companion and caregiver, Melissa Wildman Hanks. A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 12:00pm, Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Boyd-Panciera Pembroke Pines Funeral Home and Chapel, 1600 North University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024, with Pastor Robert Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests donations to your favorite charity in John’s memory.
