It is with great sorrow that we announce Richard (Dick) Bergen passed away on November 21, 2025.

Richard Michael Bergen was born on August 20, 1942, in Brownsville, PA and currently residing in Miami Springs, FL. His family moved to Miami, FL, when he was 8 years old. He attended Corpus Christi Catholic School and graduated from Archbishop Curley High School in 1960.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE AND UNITED STATES ARMY SERVICE

He was a Television Camera Operator, Announcer, Stage Manager, Studio Supervisor, Radio DJ, and Night-Time Remote Operator.

EARLY 1960s

He worked at WTHS TV station in Miami, FL, WGMA Radio station in Hollywood, FL, and WKAT in Miami Beach, FL.

May 1964

He enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to WFM-TV Fort Monmouth, NJ. In 1965, he was assigned to the Armed Forces Korea Network (AFKN) in Yongsan Garrison, Seoul, Korea (TV and Radio), where he served for a year and a half. He completed his service on March 9, 1967.

March 26, 1967

He joined WTVJ-Channel 4 TV in Miami, FL and was there until the mid-1980s. Later, he joined WCIX-Channel 6 TV and was there when the station changed to WFOR-Channel 4 in 1995 and stayed until the late 1990s.

November 4, 2007

He was inducted into "The Silver Circle" of the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Televison Arts and Sciences.

PERSONAL LIFE

In the mid-1970s he moved to Miami Springs, FL where he remained until his death. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and served as an usher for 34 years. He also participated in their yearly festivals. He was very involved with the city of Miami Springs activities: 4th of July Parades, River Cities Festivals, National Night Out, Memorial Services, and many more. He was very proud of his Irish Heritage (his grandmother, Catherine Feeney was from County Mayo, Ireland) and was a member of the South Florida Emerald Society for several years. He helped coordinate the St. Patrick's Day parades that were held in Miami Springs in the 1990s.

Richard was taken care of at the end by the special and wonderful team from Vitas Hospice. He is preceeded in death by his father Michael, mother Mary Ellen, sister Mary Catherine, and grandmother Feeney. He will be remembered and missed by his loving cousins and childhood friends, who remained in touch. WTVJ family and many friends in Miami Springs. Special thanks to long time friends who were there for him over the past few difficult months. Tim, Nancy, Pamela and Laury. He will also be remembered and missed by his long-time friend and attorney, Connie and his good friend for more than 30 years, Deanna. Deanna will always remember his kindness and their special times together every year, even after she moved out of state.

Burial will be private. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Richards favorite charities: any veteran organization, special olympics, or one of your own choosing.
